7 Do’s and Don’ts While Designing A Perfect Label

1) Leave Margin (Bleed) While Designing

The most fundamental part of label printing is to prepare the artwork correctly. Designing details are important, and they can make or break a label’s appearance.

Hence, in order to get a perfect die-cut of your label, keeping a Margin (Bleed) is very essential.

2. Make Sure Your Labels Resonates With Your Brand

Just as your label is your salesperson on the retail shelf, your BRAND is your identity in the marketplace. It’s imperative that your brand represents your company effectively, and that your design elements, colors, and brand work together

It’s a natural assumption that a company with a consistent brand presentation and quality labels that stand out from the competition would also distribute an exceptional product. In its most basic form, your packaging is your brand.

A common color scheme or design element used consistently across all products will help consumers identify your offerings when displayed at different places along the same shelf, or in different stores.

Just like your individual label designs, your brand should communicate the same sense of quality, uniqueness, and purpose-driven design.

A cohesive style and standardization of your packaging across all products will trigger consumers’ association with your brand. The more consumers experience positive contact with your brand, the more likely they are to recognize it, trust it and buy from it again.

Once they’ve had a positive experience with one of your products, they’ll be more inclined to repurchase that product or try another of your products.

3) What Kind Of Label To Use For Frozen Products?

Using label materials that aren’t designed for freezing conditions can cause issues with looks and performance which is why we recommend using a freezer-grade label material like Plastic Labels or Paper Labels with a laminated coating.

Knowing the conditions and environments your labels will be exposed is crucial when selecting materials that will work best for your frozen product or whatever item you’re labeling. You can provide all the details of your labeling project to your printer so they can suggest which minimum application temperature and service range temperature label will work for your product and/or application environment.

4) Minimalistic Design Can Go A Long Way…

Keep It Super Simple (KISS)

While doing creative work like creating a product package or designing a label, remember the rule:

Less is more!

It is good to be creative while designing but beware of the glitch of overdoing. The package, as well as its label, should be clean and simple.

Keeping the label clean does not mean hiding the required information. Give all relevant information on your product package but don’t make it too artistic.

When creating a label design, make sure the text is legible. The font size should be appropriate so that people can read the label from a good distance clearly.

Going by customers’ psychology, bright color is a wiser choice as it gives them a sense of confidence. Also, the color shades should be in sync with the brand’s existing visual style.

5) Stick To Your Colour Palette

The color scheme you choose for your label can have a large impact on how your product is perceived. Consider the psychological research behind the colors available, and what tone you want your product to set, whether it’s tranquility, excitement, environmental friendliness, or something else. In addition, you’ll want to choose a color that stands out to members of your target demographic.

Using too many colors is also not recommended, as it would make your product look very cluttered. Additionally, there are so many tools available online to figure out your right color pallet.

6) Keep It Unique

We know what you’re thinking — how unique can a label really be? If you’re imagining a standard four-color, one-sided, square-cut label, there’s only so much one can do to make it both appealing and functional to a consumer. But what you’re likely not thinking of is the variety of customizable options available which can help you to make your label stand out in the crowded market.

How to make your labels unique?

  • Make it fun. You can always introduce some humor to your product packaging to develop a friendly relationship with your customers. Including humor will, in fact, attract customers to your product.
  • Use Foil Stamping: Highlighting a few areas of a label with Foil Stamp can have a great impact on your brand and can really put your product into the spotlight.
  • Study your Competitors: Research your competitors’ labels. Get a design that stands out. An obsolete, boring or copied design may lead to a legal razzmatazz.

7) Make Sure To Print Essential Information

  • Today, health and wellness are considered top priorities in people’s lives. Consumers are more knowledgeable, and so they are more aware of what’s healthy and what they should avoid. Nutritional facts label aid consumers in making informed decisions. Consumers continue to demand to know the nutritional value that is in their food. It doesn’t matter if they follow a ketogenic diet, are gluten-free, or are vegan, they want accurate information.
  • Companies that don’t provide accurate nutrition information risk losing the trust of their customers. Once trust is lost, it is almost impossible to get it back. Accurate nutrition labels serve as guides that people use in making healthy choices every day.
  • One aspect of label design many businesses neglect is how to create a barcode label. However, it’s one of the most important parts of your label — barcodes help identify your product as well as provide additional information and security when scanned. You’ll need to apply for a product barcode through the GS1 website (For Indian Customers). Once you receive the barcodes you can apply them to your labels.
